Emily From LA - The Deep Seeds
There is basically no information online (that I could find) about The Deep Seeds except a simple myspace page. I really hope whoever is behind this project starts releasing more stuff.
The lovely Rachel Goodrich is finally working on her first album! The album, which will be titled Tinker Toys, will include one of my favorite tracks she plays live, Light Bulb. Here’s a little clip of Rachel performing that song at PS14. Nevermind the feedback, you know you love it.
Memorize this name, I see very very good things coming her way.
Song: Mystical
Artist: Birdie Busch
She has the best myspace bio I have ever seen:
I’d like to begin by saying that I believe in songs so much. I believe in the stories and the feelings they convey. I believe in them the way some believe in a good night’s sleep or a well paying job or the way a scientist might dedicate his life to some certain insect. I’ve been thinking in song for a little long while now. I love rhythm and I adore melody and lyrics are my jawn. In fact, the more time goes on the more enamored I am with music. Every time I play or witness someone play I feel as though a rich tradition is passing between us, a transmission in moments given to infinity. Sometimes I am regretful that I wasn’t around or am not going to be around for everything (I would have really liked to see Buddy Holly play Not Fade Away live!) but I’m starting to feel now that I am those, these, and others, and the transmission continues and I feel the spirit and give back. Days become easier when I harness this energy and let go, a thing called “thanksliving.” I feel blessed to have this life and even more so to have songs to sing in it. You can find me singing them in many places and I hope that sometime somewhere I may sing them to you…..Follow your bliss, Birdie Busch
Old Crow Medicne Show (OCMS for the cool kids) is a band literally like none other nowadays. Sorry for the cliché but trust me on this one. I don’t think I know of any other band doing something similar to what these guys are up to. Call it folk, alt-country (eek), americana, roots music, bluesgrass, etc; they are still amazing. They do a lot of their own stuff but what I like best is how they take a lot of the old traditional tunes from way way back (pre-World War II stuff) and don’t try to make it sound all contemporary but actually try to play it the way it’s meant to be played!
They just announced a string of tour dates after taking a 5 month break. If you live anywhere near these venues, do yourself a favor and check them out. You can thank me later. =)

She JUST turned 18 and has been playing guitar since the age of 3 thanks to her father who early on introduced her to Dylan and Young. In just two short years, the Berkshire native has amassed quite the following and has even been described as a “Regina Spektor with the intelligence of Carole King and the acoustic lushness of Joni Mitchell.” Her debut Alas, I Cannot Swim is a beautifully produced album filled with bittersweet songs of stunning craftsmanship.
Marling’s YouTube channel has four amazing music videos. Here’s one of those nifty little videos:
